I am someone that is not at ease to create relationships. Therefore, I have hesitated to choose a teacher. The following instruction given by the Geshe la during Light of Meditation teachings resonates deeply in my mind:
The teacher is not someone who is kind and speaks what pleases us. His words are almost the words of Buddha in the sense that they have to convey a logical meaning that can be verified and traced back through the whole lineage to Buddha's teaching. We should approach the teacher in the same way as we would approach a Buddha. Fist, we must test his words as a goldsmith checks a piece of gold, and if we firmly conclude that he is a fully qualified master, we must respect him as we would respect a Buddha.
